Black Pearl Oyster House (“we”, “us”) runs this website at blackpearloysterhouse.com. This notice explains what personal information we collect through it, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We have kept it short and specific to this site rather than generic.
What we collect, and when
If you request a table
The reservation form on our Location & Reservations page asks for:
| Name | So we know whose table it is. |
| Email address | So we can confirm the booking in writing. |
| Phone number | So we can reach you if something changes on the day. |
| Date, time, party size | To hold the right table. |
| Special requests | Only what you choose to type — allergies, a window table, an occasion. |
We ask for this because we need it to answer your request. If you would rather not fill in a form, you can simply phone or WhatsApp us on +264 81 651 0996 instead.
Please do not send us medical detail through the form. If you have a serious allergy, tell your host when you arrive — it reaches the kitchen faster and we do not need it on file.
If you sign up for our newsletter
We collect your email address and nothing else. We use it only to send occasional news about menus, cellar arrivals and events — no more than about once a month. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply and ask us to stop.
Automatically, as you browse
Our host records standard server information such as your IP address, browser type and which pages were requested. This is ordinary web-server logging, used to keep the site running and secure.
Cookies and browser storage
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we run no analytics or advertising pixels on this site.
The site stores one small preference in your own browser: whether you muted the ambient ocean sound, and where the clip had reached. It never leaves your device, we cannot read it, and clearing your browser data removes it.
The embedded Google Map on our Location page does set its own cookies when it loads. See below.
Who else receives your information
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. These are the only third parties involved in running this site:
| Web3Forms | Delivers the reservation and newsletter forms to our inbox. Your form entries pass through their servers, which are outside Namibia. Their privacy policy. |
| Google (Gmail) | Hosts the inbox that receives your booking request. |
| Google Fonts | Serves the typefaces used across the site. Loading them passes your IP address to Google. |
| Google Maps | Powers the map on the Location page. It passes your IP address to Google and sets its own cookies when it loads. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts and delivers the website itself. |
How long we keep it
Booking requests stay in our email for as long as we reasonably need them to run the restaurant — normally no more than 24 months — and are then deleted. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. If you ask us to delete something sooner, we will.
Keeping it safe
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and form submissions are encrypted in transit. No website can promise perfect security, but we do not store your details in any database of our own — they arrive as an email and stay there.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you what we hold about you;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- delete it;
- stop sending you the newsletter;
- stop using your details for anything other than the booking you asked for.
Email blackpearlohreservations@gmail.com and we will deal with it within 30 days. There is no charge. If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Families are of course welcome in the restaurant — we simply ask that a parent or guardian makes the booking.
Changes
If we change how the site handles personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
